Painting over old gloss paint?
I'm trying to decorate two bedrooms, one for our 3 y.o. son and one for our new baby, due in September!
I've used Crown Breatheasy silk emulsion on the walls (to minimise fumes) and tried to use the same on the woodwork (in a different colour) to avoid the risk of strong fumes etc (which I can't cope with at the moment), but the woodwork is painted in old gloss paint and the emulsion just isn't sticking to it very well. It looks really streaky and awful.
I don't really mind about having a totally professional finish at the moment - I just want to get it done before September so that the rooms are useable!
Is there anything else I can try that doesn't involve strong paint strippers or horribly smelly oil based gloss paint (can't take the fumes right now?) ??
Nothing sticks to gloss paint, you have to sand it to rough the surface texture
no need to sand it all off, just rough the surface. Your emulsion will work fine then
best of luck
oh, remember to wipe the loose paint dust off with a damp cloth before repainting
