Cleaning Ugly Oil Stains From Your Driveway
Maybe your looking to give your driveway or patio some much need care and attention!. It only takes a visitor or a previous owner to have left a leaky motorcar on your drive for a few minutes and you will have awful stains all over your nice driveway.
Removing the stains can be quite tricky so here is instructions that should get rid of the bulk of the oil from your driveway.
Removing Oil Stains
Your going to need some supplies to get the best results when your ready to get started cleaning the oil stains from your driveway.
Tools
A good stiff brush
washing up liquid
hot water
container
spill soil
baking soda
solvent ( benzine or petrol )
gloves
Cleaning Your Driveway
First of all its a great idea to clear your driveway of any vehicles or insecure materials prior to treating it. There is nothing worse than finishing cleaning your drive and then having to clean all the spray and muck from your car.
The above is clear, nevertheless I thought I should allude to it in case anyone writes me to tell me that their car is now covered in overspray and grime. lol
Ok fill your bucket with a regular squirt of degreaser or washing up fluid, and then fill your bucket with hot water. Soak the affected area with the solution and get to work with your stiff brush. Now here is a good point, if your driveway is looking generally grubby it may be reasonable to clean the whole driveway and not just the small stained area.
After you have worked in the solution you should wash it off and then add your solvent ( if possible ) and ensure you are wearing gloves ( for all the health and safety execs reading this post). The solvent should break down the oil and make it much easier to lift off using an fitting compound like spill soil or baking soda.
Leave the solvent to do its job ( an ideal time to grab a coffee ) and after 30 mins or so apply the soda or spill soil to your driveway. Sweep the soda into the paving stones, concrete or asphalt and allow it to absorb the stain, A second treatment may be needed for stains that have been allowed to bed in.
In conclusion if you have access to a power washer then give it the beans. Remember to take care of any areas including yourself from the spray and any stones or chips that may be disturbed by the jet.
