Is a Wood hutch better then a metal cage for rabbits?
I'm not sure what is better wood or metal? can rabbits eat though the wood? and what about when they go wee it would just sit in the hutch and smell.
Hi Lana,
You should purchase bedding for your rabbit in order to provide material for your rabbit to relieve themselves in. The bedding absorbs urine and most rabbits will cover up their poo with the bedding. Because amonia from the urine will build up, you have to be sure to change the bedding and clean the hutch/cage well. Plus, the build up of amonia from the urine can cause resp. problems in your rabbit.
As far as the hutch goes, you can use a hutch or a cage that is recommended for rabbits. Personally, I prefer a cage and I keep my rabbits indoors. A cage gives me a total view of my rabbits at all times and I find that it is easier to monitor them where their behavior and health is concerned.
Rabbits will chew wood and they will chew on cage bars. If you consider getting a hutch, be sure to get a hutch that is made of the correct wood because some wood is toxic to rabbits.
